Art x Culture Discussions // COLOR

Art x Culture Discussions — A series of roundtable discussions with the intention of creating a forum to explore the variety of ways that art is influenced and informed by our unique cultural contexts.

No. 1 COLO[U]R

We explore themes such as access to color, perception of color, and cultural meaning associated with colors.

Our artists are Kari Morgan and Monica Tie. Kari is presenting on her use and knowledge of traditional colors as a Northwest Coast Indigenous Artist; touching on what makes them traditional and how that influences her practice. Monica is demonstrating how she intentionally chooses color palettes inspired by her heritage and how she is able to reinterpret them in a contemporary body of work.

The course readings for this event can be found here.

Monica Tie - (she/they) is a visual artist dedicated to using art to question the contexts in which we operate and to illuminate the beauty and nuance that lies within and between cultures. She strives to create thoughtful pieces using symbols and abstraction to tell stories of heritage, change, and conflict.
