Common AREA Maintenance is named as such because it is a communal space shaped and maintained by member artists. CAM is an open format studio and no one owns a particular spot. We make space for others' practices as they make space for ours. Every artist is a potential collaborator.

The studio is also an event space and we host an average of two to three community events a month, including figure drawing, readings, and gallery openings. Member artists are encouraged to curate.

We are looking for artists with shared values who are dedicated to their practice and interested in community building and resource sharing. There are two committees in which member artists participate. Working at CAM means partaking in this structure - this ensures collective responsibility in how the space operates.

  • All memberships include 24-hour access to 3,000 square feet of communal space including ::

    • work tables & easels

    • poetry, art book & zine library

    • print shop

    • wood shop

    • event/exhibition gallery

    • two storefront window bays,

    • photo backdrop and green screen bay

Artist members have the opportunity and are encouraged to exhibit their own work, curate art shows, readings, or programming, and have on many occasions hosted a movie night or pot luck.

  • We put labor into hosting events/ developing programming and community building. There is a collective responsibility to these goals. We work towards having a floor and ceiling for volunteered labor in the studio.

Outreach Committee is tasked with building and maintaining relationships with our broader arts community and working with potential new members.

Programs Committee is in charge of the organization, promotion and development of art shows and forward facing programing.
