September Work Parties and Work Party FAQ
The El Rey continues to take shape thanks to the efforts of our volunteers. Over the last few months, dozens of members of our community have contributed time and effort to cleaning, renovating, and refurbishing the El Rey space.
We’re ramping up our efforts this September with four work parties in the coming weeks:
Saturday, September 19, 10 am - 4 pm
Sunday, September 20, 10 am - 4 pm
Wednesday, September 23, 10 am - 1 pm
We’re also happy to share answers to a couple questions we hear about El Rey work parties:
Do I have to sign up to volunteer?
Drop-ins are always welcome, but you can also sign up to volunteer for any of the above time slots using CAM’s Volunteer Form.
Do I need any special skills to volunteer?
Nope! We welcome folks who are handy, but work parties are open to everyone - whatever your capabilities, we’ll find some way for you to contribute. That said, if you’re looking to pick up home repair skills, these work parties are a great place to learn some!
In other words - no, you don’t need to know how to patch a hole in drywall before you show up, but you might leave knowing how to anyway!
Do I have to commit to a full shift?
If you can work from 10 am - 4 pm, that’s great, and also honestly pretty impressive? But it’s not the expectation, and we’re happy to have folks for any portion of the work party they can attend. Even stopping by for an hour of sweeping helps!
Are work parties the only way to get involved?
Absolutely not! Volunteers for work parties are invaluable, but there are plenty of opportunities to support the El Rey! Visit our page here to learn more and tell us about how you’d like to contribute to the cause.
