Memberships

Common Area Maintenance is a nonprofit built on the idea that artists working together can make Seattle a better place. We put real labor into hosting events, developing programming, and building community, and there is a shared responsibility in sustaining this work. We aim to hold a clear floor and ceiling for volunteered labor so participation stays equitable and sustainable.

We are a communal space shaped and maintained by member artists. CAM is an open format studio and no one owns a particular spot. We make space for others’ practices as they make space for ours, and every artist is a potential collaborator.

The studio is also an event space, with regular community programming including figure drawing, readings, and exhibitions. Member artists are encouraged to curate and contribute to what happens here.

We are looking for artists with shared values who are dedicated to their practice and interested in community building and resource sharing. Members participate in committees that support the organization, and being part of CAM means engaging in this structure so the space can function collectively.

The Application Process

  1. Be interested in CAM! Yay!
