Mike Hascall: An Artist’s Legacy Housecleaning
This retrospective is a celebration of 50 years of Mike Hascall’s work, tracing his process and growth as an artist. It is also a housecleaning of sorts. Like many artists with large collections of work, Hascall hopes to leave his family with a legacy of his creative life, and not a full storage unit to grapple with someday. He is documenting the process and will collaborate with Common Area Maintenance (CAM) printshop on a guide for artists to begin their own legacy housecleaning.
Hascall is generously donating the proceeds from the show to CAM to help us further our mission of supporting artists with affordable studios, gallery and performance space.

Artist Statement
I paint from what I see in the world and from my imagination, but the imagination is key. We see the world in layers and flashes, and I like to mix up these elements to enhance the mysterious. I am fascinated by imbalance and unique forms in Nature. I work with unusual juxtapositions and the way the wrong image in the wrong place can form a new balance. I never tire of looking carefully at the world and finding something new.
